As of last year, the Ohio State Bill SB 57 was signed by Gov. DeWine. It now makes legal the sale or purchase of hemp products and hemp. The stipulation is that, on a dry weight basis, there must be under 0.3% THC contained within. So, you can now buy and use cannabidiol (CBD) in Ohio!
Please do keep in mind, however, that though both marijuana and hemp come from cannabis plants, a far lower concentration of THC is found in hemp plants. Unless you are an official card-carrying medical marijuana user in Ohio, marijuana is still prohibited… for now.
With this good news spreading quickly (regarding the legalization of CBD), many Ohioans have questions. Let’s take a look at some helpful information.
CBD Buying Tips
Unlike many other products, buying CBD (cannabidiol) can be challenging, to say the least. Particularly if you’ve never purchased it before. There are unsafe products out there, so you have to be sure where you are buying your products from and who manufactured them. With the CBD industry booming, lots of people are trying to cash in. Not all of them are aboveboard and not all sell the legal amount of THC within their products. Additionally, there can be any number of health hazards and risks for consumers from bogus products. This is a buyer beware purchase. So beware!
Only buy reputable products from reputable manufacturers at reputable stores.
Reasons for Using CBD
Ohioans wishing to shop for and utilize CBD should first consider why it is they want to try these products. There are many benefits to enjoy through the use of CBD. But which form you buy it and can have everything to do with why you want to use it. CBD comes in various forms including tinctures, vaping supplies, pills, topical, and more. Particular ailments can be managed and treated effectively by certain products.
Here’s a couple of examples:
- Most effective for muscle pains and aches are topical products.
- Most effective for calmness, however, is CBD vaping.
Note: Though the benefits of CBD are many, be wary of products that make health claims which are even marginally outlandish. Particularly if you’re just beginning CBD use, don’t expect instantaneous results. Be patient and keep your expectations reasonable. It is not a fix all or a cure all by any means.
For the record, CBD has been used for the following:
- To treat epilepsy
- Improve sleep
- Reduce inflammation
- Reduce pain
- Lessen depression
- Relieve anxiety
- And other health benefits
Who’s Growing Your Ohio CBD?
Thanks to the farm bill, hemp can be grown in Ohio according to Ohio Department of Agriculture Regulations. So, feel free to support your local farmers by purchasing and using CBD products that are homegrown.
On the other hand, buying hemp derived products from states that have a cannabis growing history is also a good idea: i.e., Oregon, Kentucky, and Colorado. As with many consumables, however, it can be dangerous to purchase anything that is grown overseas.
Additionally, keep the ingredients in the products you purchase and utilize as natural as possible. Solvent free products are advisable.
